Fronius inverter

📋 Overview

The Fronius inverter is connected to the Currentt Navigator to read production data and control the system.

⚙️ How does it work?

The Currentt Navigator communicates with the Fronius inverter via Modbus TCP over the local network (Ethernet). Fronius uses the SunSpec Modbus protocol — an industry standard for solar equipment. The Currentt Navigator reads production data, power levels and status information, and can control the inverter's power output.

🧰 Requirements

  • Currentt Navigator (connected to the local network)
  • Ethernet cable (RJ45, CAT5/Cat6)
  • Laptop or smartphone (for accessing the inverter's web interface)

1️⃣ Step 1: Connect the inverter to the network

All Fronius GEN24 Plus inverters have a built-in Ethernet port (RJ45) and WiFi.

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable (RJ45) to the Ethernet port on the Fronius inverter
  2. Connect the other end to your network switch or router
  3. The inverter automatically obtains an IP address via DHCP

2️⃣ Step 2: Determine the IP address

To configure the inverter, you need its IP address.

  • Via your router: Check the DHCP client list for a device with "Fronius" in the name
  • Via the Fronius WiFi AP: When the inverter is not connected via Ethernet, it broadcasts its own WiFi network (SSID: FRONIUS_[serial_number]). Connect to it and navigate to 192.168.250.1

3️⃣ Step 3: Enable Modbus TCP

Modbus TCP is disabled by default on Fronius inverters and must be enabled via the web interface.

  1. Open a browser and navigate to http://[IP address] of the inverter
  2. Log in as Technician:
RolePassword
Customer(limited access)
Technician(set during commissioning — often the last 8 characters of the serial number)
  1. Navigate to Communication > Modbus
  2. Set the following values:
SettingValue
Modbus TCPEnabled
Port502
Modbus address1 (default)
SunSpec ModelFloat (recommended)
  1. Save the settings
Note

The Technician password is set during commissioning by the installer. Contact the installer if the password is unknown.

SunSpec Float vs. Int

Fronius offers two SunSpec data models: Float (model 111-113) and Int (model 101-103). Choose Float for the easiest integration — this does not require scale factor calculations.

4️⃣ Step 4: Configuration in the Currentt Navigator

After enabling Modbus TCP, the inverter must be added in the Currentt Navigator.

  1. Click the settings icon (top right of the screen)
  2. Choose Setup Wizard
  3. Follow the on-screen steps

Manual configuration

  1. Click the settings icon (top right of the screen)
  2. Go to Components
  3. Click the + button in the Inverters section
  4. Select Fronius
  5. Enter the connection details:
