Growatt Modbus TCP (ShineWiLan-X2)

This guide describes step by step how to connect a Growatt inverter to the Currentt Navigator via Modbus TCP. The connection runs through the Growatt ShineWiLan-X2 datalogger.

⚙️ How it works

Growatt inverters do not support Modbus TCP directly. A Growatt ShineWiLan-X2 datalogger is required for Modbus TCP. This is a single device that plugs directly into the inverter's USB port and connects to the local network via WiFi or a LAN cable.

The ShineWiLan-X2 acts as an intermediary: it translates Modbus TCP (from the network) to Modbus RTU (to the inverter, via USB). The Currentt Navigator reads and controls the inverter over Modbus TCP.

Note: ShineLink-X does not work

The older ShineLink-X (ShineRFStick-X + ShineLanBox, using an RF link) is not suitable for this integration. Always use the ShineWiLan-X2.

🧰 Requirements

  • Currentt Navigator (connected to the local network)
  • Growatt ShineWiLan-X2 datalogger
  • A WiFi network or a LAN cable (RJ-45) to connect the ShineWiLan-X2 to the router
  • ShinePhone app (to configure the datalogger)

🪛 Installation instructions

Step 1: Connect the ShineWiLan-X2 to the inverter

  1. Rotate the USB cover on the inverter counterclockwise to remove it
  2. Insert the ShineWiLan-X2 into the USB port on the inverter
  3. Press the lock and rotate clockwise until it clicks into place

The ShineWiLan-X2 powers up as soon as the inverter is on and its LEDs light up.

Step 2: Connect the ShineWiLan-X2 to the network

The ShineWiLan-X2 is configured with the ShinePhone app via hotspot mode.

  1. Open the ShinePhone app and go to the hotspot mode of the ShineWiLan-X2
  2. Open the Configure the network screen
  3. Connect the datalogger to the network:
    • Via WiFi: enter the WiFi name and password and tap Configure immediately
    • Via LAN cable: connect a LAN cable (RJ-45) between the ShineWiLan-X2 and the router/switch. The "Configure immediately" step can then be skipped
  4. Wait for the message "The datalogger is configured successfully"

By default, the ShineWiLan-X2 automatically obtains an IP address via DHCP.

For a stable connection we recommend a static IP address so the address does not change after a restart. If your router assigns a specific IP address, you can also keep using the default DHCP function.

  1. In the ShinePhone app (hotspot mode), go to AdvancedRouter settings
  2. Enter the password: growatt + today's date (growattYYYYMMDD), for example growatt20231121
  3. Turn DHCP off
  4. Enter a static IP address within your network's range, for example:
SettingExample
IP address192.168.3.8
Gateway192.168.3.1
Subnet mask255.255.255.0
  1. Tap Save
Same network required

The ShineWiLan-X2 and the Currentt Navigator must be on the same (V)LAN (for example, under the same router). Use a unique IP address for each device.

Step 4: Configuration in the Currentt Navigator

After configuring the ShineWiLan-X2, the inverter must be added in the Currentt Navigator.

  1. Click the settings icon (top right of the screen)
  2. Choose Setup Wizard
  3. Follow the on-screen steps

Manual configuration

  1. Click the settings icon (top right of the screen)
  2. Go to Components
  3. Click the + button in the Inverters section
  4. Select Growatt
  5. Enter the connection details:
